About Coach Sam

Sam became interested in coaching at a young age and earned his USSF ‘E’ Coaching License in 2008 when he was 15 years old. Sam started coaching youth goalkeepers at the age of 16 while working for Edward Brown and the Academy One Goalkeeper Academy. Sam planned and ran sessions ranging from 1-on-1 to groups of up to 12. Over the next 8 summers, Sam would also help run the Academy One Goalkeeper Camps in St. Mary’s and Hagerstown, MD. In 2014 Sam was invited to become a staff member at the Star Goalkeeper Academy camp in Westminster, CT. Sam learned from the United States’ most successful goalkeeper coach, Dan Gaspar, who has coached in multiple World Cups, and in top professional leagues around the world. Sam’s experiences with SGA and Academy One helped form his coaching style; one that focuses on technique and game realistic training. Sam was able to continue his coaching career as an U-12 and U-14 coach, as well as over-seeing the development of the club’s youth goalkeepers for the IFK Åmål Academy in Åmål, Sweden while he played there from 2016-2017. Upon his return to the States, Sam helped run camps for Fresno FC and the Open Goal Project in the summer of 2018. In 2019, Sam was hired by High Performance Academy to help run their goalkeeper program in Fresno, California. Sam worked with goalkeepers ranging from 8-19 years old, coaching beginners through high school seniors preparing for college seasons. At the end of the 2019 season Sam also helped run the goalkeeper program for South Valley United in Visalia, California. While with Union Omaha in 2020, Sam was responsible for identifying goalkeepers for the Nebraska ODP Program. In 2021 when he was playing with Oklahoma City Energy, Sam helped coordinate training programs for private clients and assisted in training goalkeepers with Sporting Oklahoma and ran goalkeeping camps for Oklahoma Energy Youth goalkeepers. In 2022 during his season with Hartford Athletic, Sam also served as the assistant coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. In 2023 Sam completed his United Soccer Coaches Level 1 Goalkeeper Diploma as well as his USSF “C” License.

Sam is currently living in Scottsdale and accepting new clients for individual and small-group training.
